Have you ever been to a sound healing?
Sound healing speaks to my soul like a warm, nurturing embrace from the universe, especially tapping into my feminine energy. It's like receiving a gentle hug when I feel spiritually adrift or mentally cluttered, grounding me and tending to my root chakra.
This spiritual practice takes its roots back to ancient civilisations, in Greece, India and Egypt. Monks use gongs, Tibetan singing bowls, bells and chimes for spiritual healing ceremonies and rituals. "When talking to the medical powers of sounds, Greek physicians used flutes, lyres, and zitters to heal their patients. They used vibration to induce sleep, aid in digestion, and treat mental disturbances". (Jen, 2022)
I'm sure we've all heard of the didgeridoo?. Well, this Australian instrument has been used by Aboriginals for more than 40,000 years making it one of the first known sounds for healing. Chinese traditions used chanting to heal mental and physical illness, I mean the list goes on.
Research has shown sound therapy can help with so many issues, like high blood pressure, stress levels, and anxiety, boost immune systems, and assist the work of our parasympathetic nervous system.
If you align it with going to the beach and being close to the ocean, it feels calming and comforting, right? That's because these sounds affect our emotions in a really natural way. This processing initiates a physiological response within the body, leading to the release of hormones and activation of specific impulses. When we hear the waves, our brains interpret them, which triggers different feelings in our bodies. It's like the ocean's music has a direct line to our emotions, helping us feel grounded and relaxed.

I've been fortunate to attend 3 sound bath healing sessions that have left a lasting impact on me.
The first one took place in Adelaide, Australia, hosted by the lovely Ahilya of "Radiance Sound Yoga." I went with my mum during a time when I craved deeper family connections. However, my mind was preoccupied with her experience, and I struggled to fully immerse myself. I've since realised that such experiences are better when I'm truly alone.
Nevertheless, Ahilya's ceremony was incredibly beautiful and nurturing. If you find yourself in Adelaide, I highly recommend attending one of her events.
The second experience was in Sanur, Bali, during a solo 2 week study holiday. Sanur was a charming blend of tranquillity and vibrant energy I've never seen, but I enjoyed it. I enjoyed that it was somewhat quiet and it had all you needed around you, in comparison to previously when I have stayed in Legion and Seminyak which are a little hectic for me. Joining a yoga group at "Koa Shala," nestled in a peaceful garden, I discovered my best self during meditation sessions accompanied by the soothing vibrations of gongs. This place felt sooooo good for my soul and the yoga classes were second to none.

My most recent encounter with sound healing was in Cornwall, England, guided by Emma in a session infused with ceremonial cacao. The serene surroundings enhanced the experience, making it truly special and rejuvenating. Emma has such a natural talent for healing and her sound bath has been my favourite so far, it was everything I needed.
I felt this amazing feeling during the guided meditation with root chakra grounded vibrations. The vibrations were so intense that I felt as if I was floating in space, above the earth. The feeling was out of this world! And then, I heard a voice, she was ready, she being in the earth, her in all that she is and all that you are. Just you as you are is all that she needs. It was like I had finally come home. Some of you might be reading this thinking... "Ok, weirdo", but it's true, and I encourage you to try something like this if you're thinking "I need that"...
If you have had great experience with a sound bath journey and recommend somewhere, I would love to hear about it. xoxo
